Getting started...options?

Id like to introduce leet to my university in Australia, but im not sure how to go about it.
Leet is a game that has to be played to understand the game [or so it would seem], and is difficult to explain to people without the equipment. Australia's exchange rate atm is poor against the euro and US$ so the equipment is relatively expensive and the distance for postage only adds to this.

Do any Leeters have any suggestions on how i could get the ball rolling?
